Testimonial from Dr. Sorta Berliana SIBUEA for the 6th IVO training program

I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in this training. I learn a lot during the training.

Many cases had been discussed. The cases are challenging, intricating and also interesting at the same time. The cases either come from in-house hospital or referral from other hospital. All patients is treated professionally with state of the art medical equipment, and is supported by capable medical team who carries out instruction from Prof. Shiina.

Prof. Shiina evaluates his patients thoroughly before doing RFA/MVA procedures. Including studying assessment from previous referral hospital as well as that of from in-house hospital. Only after evaluation is completed, Prof.  Shiina would schedule and inform his team to do certain medical procedures to the patients. One day before doing procedures,  Prof. Shiina usually gives us a chance to read MRI liver and to look for tumor nodul using USG. I hope that someday, the fusion system that combines MRI/CT scan with USG features in one monitor screen such of used by Prof. Shiina could also be used at the institution where I work.

Prof. Shiina is a very thorough person, patient, diligent, hard worker and a good teacher.

What interesting from Prof Shiina is that because he is a hepatologist, the art and science applied by him differ that of  radiologist who only focus on ablation of tumors. Prof. Shiina works holistically and has a good clinical judgement. For example, on Friday there was a case, a patient who has to be biopsied because of recurrent HCC, but there is no indication of  enhancement. So it might be possible not HCC. He then decided to have a biopsy to determine the anatomical pathology. The day after completing the procedures, Prof Shiina always reconfirms all the RFAs or MWAs that he did with CT scan. This was practiced, in order to make sure the ablation procedures were well executed and to compare with  Pre RFA/ MVA data. Not only getting trained, I learn a lot of other things from him, such as adopting the superb work culture supported by technology and state the art equipment enabling complex procedures be done to help difficult patient cases.

And I feel confident now that tumors which positions are difficult near organ, such as vessels, gall bladers and hearts, with the support by highly trained operators and fusion systems as well as realiable modality devices, will definitely could be carried out with excellent result.

Personally, I am looking forward to have more great training like I have experienced now, and I am thanking Prof Shiina and his great team for the opportunity.
